A Court of Mist and Fury
Book two of the series
By Sarah J. Maas
Published in 2016
Genre: High Fantasy
My Rating: 5 stars
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is in my top 5 books of the year for sure.

Both ACOTAR and ACOMAF have little fairytale elements involved but of course, its Maas, so nothings as simple as it seems. The part with the weaver reminded me of Hansel and Gretel, kind of in the same way the blind wyrm reminded me of Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets. I love it though because I'm a sucker for a fairytale...
Why do I love Feyre so much? What makes her so incredible and amazing compared to other female lead characters? She absolutely refuses to be controlled by men and this is such a good message for readers of any age. The younger audience need to learn this lesson and for the older audience it's a nice reminder. Yes a lot of female leads are strong characters but one who as determined as much as Feyre to be her own person? You don't find that so often.
Also, (a wee spoiler in this paragraph sorry) Feyre and Rhysand have such a great relationship because he doesn't want to control her either. Their love story is actually interesting instead of just soppy. Something that I was proud of Maas for is how she just normalises the fact that Feyre, a young girl, had more than one sexual partner and nobody judges Feyre for it. Like can we have more of this please? Real life, modern day issues of women being discriminated and treated as objects come up in Maas' books a lot and she just kicks them square in the face and writes whatever she wants, I LOVE IT. The females reading these books are going to turn out very strong minded let me tell you.
Maas paints a world so vivid in so few words that no doubt we all see our own versions of the stories and that is the true beauty of reading. When people read a book they love, they always say they can’t put it down. But in Sarah J Maas books generally I'm finding, that there is so much going on that I need a break, feel tired out from reading but in a good way. Like the story has so much adventure I need some time to take it all in before I can continue.
When I finished the last page here I was just like Maas seriously? How could you do this to me? I've never been left on an ending like that before.
An amazing series that I'm loving so far and a huge recommendation to fantasy lovers.
