“Be glad of your human heart, Feyre. Pity those who don’t feel anything at all.”

What can I say that hasn’t already been said about A Court Of Thorns and Roses? I’m late to this party.
To start off, this book actually wasn’t what I thought it was going to be. I thought it would maybe be about hunting werewolves or something? I was wrong but loved it all the same. Literally everyone seems to be raving about this series, so I was just dying to delve into it.
It’s a fantasy book with plenty of romance, young adult apparently but I’d say it’s more in the crossover to adult.
I read Crescent City, House of Earth and Blood, before ACOTAR and I could quickly see a lot of similarities such as the seven High Fae, wings being cut off, the Suriel, etc. I don’t want to spoil anything if you’ve not read both books yet so I’ll stop there…
If you love books with a strong female hero, love stories and magic then you’ll enjoy this book. Everyone says this has a Beauty and the Beast feel as it’s meant to be a retelling, I do have to say though that there’s a Bella Swan, Hunger Games and Harry Potter feel to this for me. As though Maas has taken some of the ideas from each and mixed them together. The plot was well thought out, some ideas didn’t seem completely original to me though. I thought I had it all figured out and that there wasn’t much mystery, but of course I was proved wrong.
I found it really interesting how there weren’t actually that many main characters all the way through the book but still managed to form a solid story. Maas is always able to paint a world in my head and bring her characters to life. I love that the book has a map at the start too because it helped me to understand the realms properly (the name pronunciation section at the end also helped massively, it took a while before I figured out how to read Feyre in my head).
I’m heading into the next book now… I think Tamlin has more secrets…
